There are many social conflicts in Greece. The most concerning and the largest conflict is that the working class continues to resist the government.
Causes: In attempts to control the working class again, the government has been resorting to authoritarian methods as an effect to the uprising. Additionally the rebellions have been instigated when citizens were laid off, stripping them of the money they need to live. Not only that, but the hospital and healthcare quality in Greece has been declining due to social welfare spending cuts, leaving the medical system in an unparalleled growing disaster. This social unrest though is specifically echoed among many South Eastern european countries as they each face specific terms of economic distress, affecting the living standards in their respective countries. Effects: More specifically in Greece, with current problems such as unemployment rising to 30% and the money available per capita dropping around 25% in amount, citizens struggle to maintain a comfortable lifestyle, and some even a lifestyle inclusive of basic necessities. On a grand scale, Greece markets are tumbling and foreign investment is dwindling, inhibiting the country from recovering from its economic situation. “More than 55% of Greeks signalled pessimism over the future in a recent poll. Another 61% thought their country’s enforced ejection from the eurozone remains a distinct possibility.” ““Just when a lot of people thought it couldn’t get worse, it seems it can,” says Toula Thanopoulou, the director of the Union of Borrowers and Consumers. “We are seeing people in really bad shape psychologically. They are incredibly scared that the next step will be banks taking away their homes. The government says all will be well, but the problem is no one believes it.”” |

Causes: There have been shortfalls in human rights protection in Croatia. Many people have been denied the ability to be able to make their own decisions. There are many problems with discrimination and lack of health care. Historically, discrimination upon race, skin color, national or ethnic origin, employment, religion and age has been prominent.
Effects: Croatia has passed and extended the Croatian Anti-Discrimination Act over these sets of years, in hope to combat such social problems. Historically these effects are best described by the Jadovno article.

“The Republic of Serbia treats this part of Serbian corpus not much better, which can be seen from its permissive attitude toward the leaders of the newest EU member state, when Serbia in hope to get promised “support" from Croatia for its own European integration process, was almost begging Croatia for simultaneous withdrawal of mutual genocide lawsuits, expressing a public desire to see “neither side won” outcome of the litigation process. This is how, in fact, Serbia pre-agreed that there was no genocide committed against Serbs in Croatia during the realization of Croatian national project by scorched earth campaigns of Tudjman’s, Susak’s and Bobetko’s troops.
The genocide against the Serbian people committed by the Croatian nation at the time of existence of the Independent State of Croatia, ceased to be mentioned as part of Serbia’scounter lawsuit, even as background explanation of continuity of the crime and the a causal link between 1940s and 1990s genocides.”

Causes: Andorra has been slowly making progress in social development. However, despite the country’s closeness to social development, discrimination still remains and is a lot of the government in Andorra.
Effects: There is a lot of discrimination concerning the rights and privileges of women, and women have no large role in the government. There are also many problems that foreigners face when they come to Andorra. Foreigners lack access to social benefits provided by the law and can face deportation if they lost their jobs. |
